Sexual addiction

The cause of love addictions and sex addictions is often rooted in childhood or adolescence. Early trauma, neglect or depression may be factors. Sexual addiction relates to any sexual activity that feels out of control and in some way can cause harm to relationships, finances or individual's personal life.

Sex addiction can include activities such as visiting prostitutes, using internet and chat lines, pornography of any kind, masturbation or intensive sex with a partner. This addiction is similar to substance abuse because as it is caused by chemical substances released during sex.

Love addiction

Love addicts tend live chaotically and in despair. They have fearful of being alone or rejected and are permanently searching for that special someone – the person that will make them feel whole. They usually are strongly attracted to the intense experience of “falling in love” than they are to the peaceful intimacy of healthy relationships.

Love addicts base their life choices on the desire and search for the perfect relationship, everything from wardrobe choices to hours at the gym, to engaging in hobbies and other activities that may or may not interest them, to the ways in which they involve others in conversations and social interactions relates to the hunting for “the one.”

The recovery process for sex addicts and love addicts is similar to that of substance addictions. It involves identifying and changing behaviour that is painful and damaging.
